Help at the point of need

Turn a compliance problem into a clear next step.

Construction businesses usually look for a consultant when a client asks for evidence, a document is rejected, a project is approaching mobilisation or managers need reliable advice beyond their current internal capacity. The first task is to understand the work, the appointment and what is genuinely missing.

Construction Safety Desk is led by Lloyd Godsall, with more than 20 years of construction experience across practical trades, site management, operations and SHEQ. That experience keeps advice connected to programme, people, plant, interfaces and the way the work will actually be delivered.

  • Competent health and safety advice for managers
  • CDM dutyholder and project-information support
  • RAMS and construction phase plan development or review
  • Policies, procedures and practical management arrangements
  • PQQ, tender and contractor compliance evidence
  • Incident follow-up and corrective-action guidance
  • One-off, project-based or retained support
The right boundary

Remote support, grounded in site reality.

A consultant should make responsibilities and decisions clearer. The desk can review information, challenge gaps and help managers plan, but it will not pretend that a generic document can replace suitable supervision, task competence or control of the live work.

Choose the right arrangement

Match the support to the risk and workload.

A small contractor needing an annual policy review has a different requirement from a business coordinating several projects, subcontractors and client assurance systems. A sensible appointment defines the subjects covered, response route, expected document volume, access to project information and the situations that require a site visit or another specialist.

For regular access, review the construction health and safety retainer. For a specific project problem, explore CDM support, RAMS and construction plans or contractor compliance support.

Common questions

Before you put it on our desk.

What does a construction health and safety consultant do?

The role depends on the appointment. Support can include competent advice, CDM guidance, RAMS and construction phase plan reviews, policy and procedure development, contractor assurance, tender evidence and agreed compliance priorities. The scope should be clear and proportionate to the business and work.

Can construction health and safety support be provided remotely?

Many planning, document, management-system and advice activities can be delivered effectively by telephone, email and video call. Remote support does not replace suitable site management, supervision, worker consultation or specialist input, and a site visit should be arranged where the risk or missing information makes one necessary.

Does appointing a consultant transfer our legal duties?

No. A consultant can provide competent assistance, advice and review, but employers and CDM dutyholders retain their legal responsibilities and must act on the information available to them.

Can support be arranged for one project rather than a monthly retainer?

Yes. Support can be scoped around one document, a tender or mobilisation, a defined project stage or an ongoing retained arrangement. The right model depends on the workload, response times, project risk and existing internal capability.
